Susan Brauer is founder and president of the publishing
company, Dreamers Tapestry, Inc, and author of “Just Keep
Dancing”, her personal odyssey of abuse and triumph which was
awarded top honors in the prestigious Illinois Woman’s Press
Association (IWPA) Mate E. Palmer Literary and Communications
Competition. Additionally, in 2011 and again in 2018, Susan was
selected as Communicator of Achievement (COA) by the Illinois
Woman’s Press Association (IWPA). This prestigious award is the
highest honor given by the IWPA to the member who has
distinguished themself within and beyond their profession with
consideration of the nominees professional achievement, their
service to the community and their work within the field of
communication.
Susan's life experiences are the basis for presentations and workshops which focus on the issues of equality and diversity women face today. Her presentations have been well received at various Women’s Business and Professional Organizations, Colleges, and Universities in the US. Additionally, Susan continually shares her “Just Keep Dancing Workshop” on domestic and dating violence with high school students throughout the Midwest.
Susan holds a BSEE and an MSEE from the University of Illinois
at Chicago. Prior to her presidency at Dreamers Tapestry, Susan
was the Dean of Academic Affairs at DeVry University, Chicago.
Before Susan's tenure at DeVry University she led teams of
engineers locally and around the globe in the design and
production of products utilized for both local and national
security.
Susan is presently on the executive boards of the Illinois
Woman’s Press Association and the Renaissance Corner Academy NFP,
and was previously on the boards of the Chicago Council of Science
and Technology (C2ST) and Illinois First Robotics.
